Frida’s Brow is a Bay Area community for people who are curious about art, design, and the world — and who want to explore it with others who feel the same. We plan events and gatherings that take you somewhere meaningful and a bit unexpected: behind the scenes of a working artist’s studio, through a collection most people will never see, into a room where something is being made by hand. No credentials required. Just an open mind and desire to connect.

Frida’s brow, Meret’s cup, Tracy’s bed…over coffee we found ourselves thinking of all of the iconic women creators whose art has also inspired a shift in the way we think about what's possible.
Frida is an icon to many different people, for a myriad of reasons. Along with her paintings her brow is the detail everyone remembers. We see it as a reminder to be bold and think differently.
We named this community for that point of view, not the biography. Frida’s Brow is for the person who has always had a point of view about art & design, who wants to explore the world around us and is ready to be in spaces with people who feel the same way.
We are inspired by Frida Kahlo.
She walked into every room completely herself — her style entirely her own, her ideas making people take notice. She arrived curious, a bit unexpected, willing to take a risk.

Frida’s Brow was founded by Lucie Charkin and Kendra Frisbie.
Lucie brings deep roots in art education and is the creator of The Artful Method, a framework for developing lasting visual literacy. Kendra comes from the world of design — interiors, aesthetics, the way spaces and objects shape how we live. Together they built Frida’s Brow because the community they were looking for didn’t yet exist.

Our events are rooted in The Artful Method, a framework developed by co-founder Lucie Charkin for building genuine fluency in art and culture. The Artful Method shapes how we sequence experiences, what we ask you to look at, and why. It’s the difference between an outing and an education that helps you forever see the world a little differently.

Four formats, each with a different energy:
The Salon — Intimate gatherings of 10–15 women. Studio visits, artist conversations, behind-the-scenes access to spaces and people most of the public doesn’t reach. About 60–90 minutes, designed for depth and understanding.
Fridays with Frida — Larger social Friday events. Think: opening-night energy, but with better conversation.
The Excursion — A half or full Saturday spent somewhere worth the drive. Wineries with serious art collections, ceramics studios, gardens, design destinations up and down the Bay. An intimate group of like-minded people, always with room to wander.
Making — Hands-on. You leave with something — a print, a piece, a new skill and feeling of accomplishment. The doing is the point, not the outcome.
-
Yes. We’re planning multi-day retreats & experiences — Bay Area and beyond — that combine travel, art, design, and the kind of conversation that only happens when you leave your normal life behind for a few days. Details are coming. Check the calendar and if you want to be among the first to know, get on our list.
-
Once or twice a month. With a retreat once a quarter.
-
Across the Bay Area — San Francisco, the East Bay, Marin, and beyond when the destination earns it. Upcoming venues include artist studios, cultural institutions, a nature bath, and spaces you won’t find through a Google search. We’ll always tell you exactly where you’re going before you RSVP.
-
Events are priced individually, typically between $25 and $100 depending on the format and access involved. You pay for what you attend. No subscription, no commitment for now. We’re working on something more for people who want to go deeper.
-
No. That’s one of our founding rules: no experience required. You bring the curiosity, we handle the rest.
-
Not yet. Right now, you attend what interests you, when it interests you. We’re building toward a more structured experience for women who want ongoing access, a curriculum, and the full depth of what Frida’s Brow can offer. Stay close.

Browse the calendar, find something that calls to you, and reserve your spot. Some events fill quickly — the smaller ones especially. We’ll send you everything you need to know ahead of time.

We have a policy we like to call ‘Be My Guest.’ For each event, add a +1 if you wish, we believe that art and culture are better explored together. Please register your +1 so we know who to expect.
